Use these 5 Online Reputation Strategies to Manage your Company's Brand

imagerepThink online reputation management is only for the big dogs? You better think again!

According to eMarketer 83% of consumers claim that online reviews affect their opinions about a particular company, and 8 of 10 of these individuals added that a negative entry on the internet has caused them to change their mind. One negative review, whether true or untrue, can thwart all your best efforts if you don’t have an online reputation strategy established. Bearing that in mind, we would like to offer five strategies your small business can implement to monitor and strengthen your online reputation management.

  1. Monitoring your brand names – Listening what’s being said about you and your organization is of vital importance. There are a number great free tools to help in this regard. Take a look at Google Alerts, Hootsuite, and Social Mention and others.
  2. Claim all of your social properties – Unclaimed social media sites can be used by your rivals for nefarious exploits. Make sure you claim all social sites that relate to your brand.
  3. Dominate page one of Google for your brand name – A great way to ensure what people see and read about you whenever they Google you is to own all the virtual real estate! If all they find when they Google you is great stuff about you and your brand, you’ll not be affected by the occasional attack.
  4. Go after customer reviews – Customer reviews aren’t just going to appear on your site: you need to ask for them. Don’t be shy about asking for reviews. Quite often, your customers are going to be flattered you asked. And of course if you offer incentives, make it clear that you’re not attempting to bribe them or manipulate their review!
  5. Make engagement a priority – Engaging with your commenters, social media posts and tweets is a terrific way to discourage any negativity from the start. Keep from getting into a shouting match though, however strong the impulse.

Online reputation management is much more vital than in the past, in this day of instant communication. Don’t neglect yours!
